I’m sure, like me, you have clothes that you love, maybe the feel or the print, but for whatever reason, you are not wearing them anymore. This is the perfect upcycle project to give them a second chance! This scarf is designed for kids, but if you want an adult size, you can combine two women's shirts or an XL men's shirt, depending on how many loops you want for your infinity scarf.
Make one right now, or pin for later.
YOU WILL NEED:
LET'S START!
Cut across the shirt under the arms and the bottom. (If your shirt has a pocket like mine, unsew it for a better result).
Measure the diameter of your kid's head. Check if you are going to have enough fabric to make a double loop, just using the bodice of the shirt, or if you are going to need the fabric from the sleeves. In my case, I needed to use this extra material.
If you are using the sleeves, try to match the print. Cut the bottom and the top of the sleeves and sew them together (right sides facing). I used a serger machine, but you can do it with a regular sewing machine. To give it a more finished look, I sewed the shirt's placket rather than just buttoning it.
To do the hem, fold over the edges of the scarf and press with the iron. ( To prevent fraying serge or use a zig zag stitch).
Then fold the scarf in half, pin the edges together and sew a straight line parallel to the hem.
Awesome! Now you have a beautiful upcycled infinity scarf for your kiddo :)
